Michael D. Pugh
Michael Pugh leads the advisory and consulting practice for MdP Associates. He has over 30 years of CEO experience in hospitals, health care systems, managed care organizations, consulting and health care technology companies and is an internationally known advisor and consultant. 

Since 1998, Mr. Pugh has focused his advisory and consulting practice on helping senior leaders define and execute strategies for improvement and organizational transformation. He works with health care delivery organizations, government, and health insurance providers in the U.S. and internationally on business strategy and organizational transformation that results in the reduction of patient harm, improved clinical outcomes and reduced cost.

Mr. Pugh is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Colorado Denver Business School Health Administration Program, where he teaches Quality and Healthcare Outcomes in the graduate Health Administration Program. Mr. Pugh is also an Instructor in the Mt. Sinai Medical School Health Care Leadership Program, where he teaches Strategy for Health Care Delivery Organizations, as well as Leadership and Quality. He is also a Senior Faculty member for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the IHI Leadership Faculty.
Mr. Pugh is a co-author of the IHI white paper "High Impact Leadership: Improve Care, Improve the Health of Populations, and Reduce Costs" and the highly popular IHI white paper "Seven Leadership Leverage Points for Organization-Level Improvement in Healthcare," as well as numerous book chapters and articles on strategy, leadership, governance, and quality.

Mr. Pugh has been active in health care leadership and has served on the boards of the American Hospital Association, the AHA Health Forum, the Joint Commission and the Colorado Hospital Association. He is a frequent speaker at regional and national conferences on subjects of leadership, governance, strategy, and quality.

Mr. Pugh holds a B.S. and an M.P.H. in Health Care Administration from Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, and is the author of multiple articles and book chapters on quality and governance.
